Got a Teeth Grinding Headache?   Is Your Mouth Guard Causing Pain?

Can grinding teeth cause headaches?

Absolutely it can.  Millions of people every day experience the misery of bruxism, whether they associate teeth grinding neck pain, the related tension of grinding teeth head pain, or moer linkly, both at once, and know all too well the chronic misery of coming down with yet another dreaded teeth grinding headache.  Some seek relief in dental splints, others look to otc night guards, or seek solace with meditation, yoga, and any manner of home remedies, with some even considering botox for grinding teeth while others prefer to wonder which cell salts work homeopathy for bruxism - so many options to prevent teeth grinding, but which one, or ones are the right one for you?

And what can you do if you have a bruxism headache right NOW?

Our free app has guided meditations that provide immediate bruxism pain relief plus a whole library of techniques for self-help remedies including hypnosis, neurosomatic movements, trigger points for massage, neck stretches, wellness articles including which minerals and cell salts are most supportive, and even optional habit trackers for water intake and breathwork time, plus a journal, all designed to move you out of that old TMJ pain, quickly and permanently, until it's just a problem you had in the past, quickly forgotten.

If you are experiencing another crushing headache from teeth grinding and you've landed here hoping for relief from that pain in the next few minutes, we have a special gift for you,

right here, right now.*

*Assuming that this TMJ pain is a chronic issue already cleared by your doctor and dentist as non-emergent, you could be free of that headache in the next few minutes.  Begin by  drinking a big glass of water to rehyradrate, lubricate, and prepare each cell and tissue for restoration, and then find a spot where you can settle in quietly, and just breathe, and just be, where you can comfortably listen for a few minutes with your undivided attention completly focused on feeling better, and forgetting to remember why it seemed important to give so very much thought energy to getting stuck in that jaw as it was before you noticed and now that you think consciously about your unconsious mind and why would it make an energy warehouse in the jaw, and what would it take for you to be able to release all of that stored energy and allow it to flow easily once again and in considering all of that, it's possible that you might have already begun to notice feeling a bit more relaxed, already, so this is the perfect time, then, to enjoy our gift to you,

Do you have a clenched jaw and headache?

Some people do their teeth grinding during the day, while others have more problems with nighttime teeth grinding.  All experience tight masseters and jaw pain, many have head and neck pain, and some even have ear pain from teeth grinding.  Headaches and tinnitus, as well as prematurely worn, cracked and chipped tooth enamel, snoring and apnea are all related conditions.

How can you make it stop?  Right now, and eventually, forever?  Are you ready to find pain relief and long term solutions with our comprehensive program?

The easy habits we teach you will allow you to quickly release:

  • Stress and Anxiety: Nervous energy leads to increased muscle tension, resulting in teeth grinding.
    • We've got an app for that
    •
  • Sleep Issues:  Difficulty getting to sleep, staying asleep, waking at the right time?
    • Guided meditations to talk you down and calm you down, right into a peaceful and restorative sleep
  • Emotional Baggage:  Often accompanied by Attentional Residue.
    • Wouldn't you rather just Let It Go?
    •
  • Hydration, Oxygenation and Nutrition:  Take care of yourself, and be amazed by how much better that feels, now
    • That's right
  •

We encourage you to clear any new habits or movements with a medical professional, and seek their advice with any questions before implementing any of the techniques that we suggest, as everyone is unique and we cannot and do not prescribe any particular method to aid one's journey to be grind free.  In any case, when seeking solutions to TMJ pain and bruxism, it's cruitical to rule out or address any underlying issues, including, but not limited to the following :

  • Sleep Disorders: Conditions like sleep apnea can contribute to nocturnal bruxism.  We can assist, but strongly recommend you seek the advice of a somnologist, neurologist, or other specialist with training in sleep medicine.
    • Apnea tends to decrease both quality and length of life.  Get treated!
  • Malocclusion: Misalignment of the teeth or jaw can cause grinding.  Your dentist or orthodontist can recommend specific solutions for you, potentially including braces, tooth aligners, tooth removal, reshaping teeth, or surgery.
    • See your dentist regularly!
  • Medications and Substances: Certain illicit as well as prescription drugs, including antidepressants (as has been long known to dentists) are associated with bruxism.  Busiperone has been shown to help some individuals mitigate increased teeth grinding with antidepressants, and could be something to discuss with your prescriber if you have experienced this correlation yourself.

What happens when you clench you jaw and grind your teeth?

Common results of bruxism include:

  • Tight, clenched jaw, reduced range of motion and pain in TMJ joint
  • Cracked, chipped, highly faceted or flattened teeth

  • Chronic, often severe headaches, especially on waking
  • Tinnitus, ringing, rushing, roaring or fullness of the ears
  • Sleep issues including problems going to sleep or staying asleep
  • Waking issues including reduced energy levels, especially on waking

Traditional Pain Relief for Bruxism Headaches and Muscle Pain

The most effective bruxism program incorporates a combination of approaches to address underlying causes and get you out of pain, fast.

Here are some common aids, and our take on them.

Mouthguards and Splints

Custom-fitted mouthguards from your dentist or a guard lab can protect teeth from grinding during sleep.  Dental splints help to align the jaw and may reduce muscle tension and jaw clenching.  OTC mouth guards cost less but may be less durable.  Not every plastic gum shield is created equal -  materials used vary, and some you might rather not chew on all night, like pthalates and MMA, so check with your provider on composition) - people find their night guard hurts their teeth and causes pain, whether it's too small, too large, too tight, hurts one tooth or just generally doesn't fit right.  Many people have reported that their nightguard made jaw clenching worse, didn't help with TMJ pain, and caused issues with jaw popping, realigned their bite, or even caused sleep apnea.

So not everyone is a fan of the mouth plate night guard plan... but have you ever considered that you can make a perfectly fitted custom nightguard inside your own mind with targeted hypnosis?  No haggling with your insurance company, no gross squishy stuff to gag you while making a custom mold, no clunky, expensive, night guard to clean with vinegar or peroxide.  Besides training your deep mind to stop the grinding before it starts, we can also fit you with your own custom imaginary mouthpiece that will ALWAYS be with you!  Never left behind and always fresh and clean, lasts forever and costs less than most dentists charge for a single mouth guard that you'll need to clean, store, and keep up with while traveling.  Just book one of our 1:1 hypnosis sessions and take same-day delivery of this very special item the day we have your session, no matter where you are in the world.

Anxiety Relief

Sometimes we just need to open that relief valve, but don't know how.  Experience our powerful guided meditations that take the pressure off immediately, and leave you feeling more open, more loose, relaxed and calm.

Coping Skills

Just as easy as breathing and moving, we'll teach you a few super simple techniques to have at hand when stress levels begin to rise.  You'll be calm, cool, collected, and in control, allowing that jaw to stay loose and relaxed, lips together, teeth apart.

Vitamins, Minerals and Tissue Salts:

Magnesium plays a critical role in over 600 bodily processes, including the relaxation of muscle fibers, allowing those knots to untangle.  Learn more about the many forms on the market, which are most bioavailable, and which one is our favorite, on our magnesium PAGE.  Deficiencies of B-complex vitamins, particularly B1, Thiamine, and B5, Panthothenic Acid have both been linked to teeth grinding, as has low vitamin D, with D3 being the most bioavailable, and it's function enhanced by vitamin K.

Lifestyle Changes:

Reducing or even eliminating any or all of caffeine, alcohol and tobacco can help decrease bruxism episodes for many people.  Drinking adequate water is a key part of muscular wellnes, including an overworked, overdeveloped masseter.  Our app has a water tracker, mindfulness reminders, and a journal to chart your wellness journey.

Massage and Thermal Therapy:

Relax your jaw muscles with massage or a warm towel held against your cheek.  You can fill a clean sock with rice, and warm gently in the microwave for a wonderful warm compress that retains heat for a while.  Once you learn to relax the jaw muscles you can stop the muscle spasms that cause bruxism.  Hypnosis can provide a mental massage and leave you feeling totally relaxed and at ease.  We have a free mini-massage total muscle relaxation session on demand, inside the app!
